McCain says illegal immigrants responsible for Arizona fires

"There is substantial evidence that some of the fires have been caused by people who have crossed our borders illegally. The answer to that part of the problem is to have a secure border. ..  [Immigrants] have set fires because they want to signal the other, they have set fires to keep warm, and they have set fires to divert law agents and agencies from them, "said Senator John McCain on Saturday, at a press conference in Arizona.

McCain is now under fire from civil rights groups about the above comments. Institute for Latino policy President Angelo Falcon called McCain's remarks "irresponsible," adding, "he immediately jumped in and started speaking about people coming across the border," he reported to Hotsheet while claimed that it was "irresponsible to jump to these conclusions and make these statements before there was any evidence." Civil rights activist Randy Parraz said "people are looking for someone to blame ... It is easier to fan the flames of intolerance, particularly in Arizona, "which also commented that McCain" should know better "than to address Arizona 's" most vulnerable populations, "without substantial evidence.

U.s. Forest Service said no evidence suggests that illegal immigrants were behind some of the fires in Arizona that allegedly by older McCain. When Tom Berglund, spokesman for the Group Federal manage Wallow elden, was asked about the validity of the proof that McCain's claims, ' he replied, "absolutely not at this level. There is evidence that I am aware, no evidence that has been public, showing something like that.
