2008 Presidential candidate John Edwards held a press conference on Friday to charges of direction of a grand jury Raleigh North Carolina federal used nearly $ 1 million in campaign funds to cover up her relationship with Mistress Rielle Hunter.
The nearly 20-page indictment includes six counts and expresses the concerns of the courts that Edwards switched his staff and funds to cover up the potential revelation of his mistress and his son, who would have been very detrimental to established himself as a man of family. Faces a charge of making false statements, allegedly related to disguise donations from two individuals, one potentially the leader of his campaign finance staff, which were channelled to Hunter.
Edwards camp holds that donations were considered gifts, could be considered as such in any investigation by the Federal Election Commission, and not in violation. Other questions have been raised that if one person is allowed to contribute total up $700 k, who paid for Hunter travels, a House for rent and medical care while she was pregnant.
Edwards was not required to post bail for his release, but can not travel out of United States and you are not allowed to have "direct or indirect contact" with a potential donor, Rachel "Bunny" Mellon heiress.
