Romney Iowa balance Act

DES MOINES, come back to a State where it logged thousands of miles and spent dozens of days four years ago, Mitt Romney said Friday seemed to come home.

And many Iowans, received a warm welcome back.

Continue reading, however, amid the embraces of people and I remember him from the 2008 campaign, Romney also received an unmistakable reminder that the extensive political family of Iowa hopes that its prodigal sons back for good.

In his first trip of the year to the initial state of the conclave, the former Governor of Massachusetts sent questions about why he was launching his campaign in New Hampshire, if he would participate in the survey of Ames of the GOP's state this summer, and most bluntly, why he only obtained here now.

"Where have you been?" the moderator asked Romney at the beginning of a question and answer session after a speech on Friday, noting that the last Republican visited the State last fall.

For Romney, the day provides a preview of the delicate balance that will have to strike with Iowans in his campaign of 2012 all-but-declared: how to make attending the conclave to feel that he is committed to compete here, but without paying so much attention to the State to pay a political price significant if you lose the way did it in 2008.

During the Q-and-A, Romney hinted that strategy only enough: peace of mind with a touch of realism mixed cold-eyed when asked about his plan of Iowa.

"I am going to discuss here, you can be here being interviewed, I'm going to talk about here and you will get to know me even better than it did the last time", he said, praising the "fundamental role" the State plays in the nomination contest.

Pressed about his intentions by a moderator who asked three different ways on its strategy, Romney won applause also reminding the crowd of the obvious: "And, by the way, today I'm here".

However, when asked if he would participate in the survey of Ames, he made it clear that he was not going to hang your tone here in promising fidelity to the traditional process which he did four years ago when he lost to Mike Huckabee 9 points despite a total effort.

And, he suggested, if truly supporters liked, not worry about tactical issues.

"As to the events that we do and how much money we spend and how many trips have to do something for the political people is to find out," said Romney. "We do what we think is best calculated to enable it to become the candidate and for me to win the White House." "Those of you who support my message will say that it is exactly what you do".
